Boston – February 18, 2009 – On February 19, 2009, in Orlando, Fla., OutStart Founder and Chief Technology Officer John Alonso will present “Selecting the Right LCMS for Your Business” to training professionals at the New Learning Technology Conference. Mr. Alonso’s presentation will highlight how to choose the right class of learning content management system (LCMS) to meet an employer’s learning and business strategies.
“My goal is educating people about all of the options that are available to them when considering an LCMS, so they can select whatever technology is best for their organization,” says Alonso.
As part of his presentation, Mr. Alonso will provide users a model by which they can effectively evaluate LCMS technologies. Having the right learning content at the right time and delivered in the right way is the key to effective learning. “For some people, simply buying an LCMS to rapidly develop content – and, then, deliver it – is the right choice,” remarks Alonso. “For others, that won’t be the right technology.”
In spite of founding a company that makes LCMS technology, Mr. Alonso strives to educate audiences in an impartial way, not offer recommendations about specific software or vendors. To that end, Mr. Alonso helps training professionals understand the entire learning-content lifecycle, including:
• Development – authoring content as well as re-using and repurposing existing content (e.g., videos, podcasts, graphics, etc.).
• Management – managing the development process; supporting Q&A; archiving; managing workflow; handling access privileges; collaborating and reporting.
• Maintenance – using automation to make it easy to find the right versions of content; facilitating updates to content.
• Delivery – delivering content via the mode (or modes) of one’s choice (e.g., online, instructor guides, mobile and assessments) as well as through various languages.
Mr. Alonso is an educator and frequent speaker on learning and knowledge-sharing technologies; his resume includes more than 25 years of experience with software development and over 10 years as an instructor.
The New Learning Technology Conference, sponsored by the Society for Applied Learning Technology®, will take place at the Ramada Orlando Celebration Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando from February 18 – 20, 2009. Mr. Alonso’s presentation begins at 9:15 a.m. EST.
